Problems in Sawdust Briquette-Making and Recommended Solutions

1. The briquette is uncompacted

Causes: 

a. The temperature is too high; 

b. The screw of the extruder is severely deformed. 

Solutions: 

a. Reduce the temperature, but bear in mind that don’t reduce the temperature too quickly; 

b. Fix the screw according to the requirements.

 

2. The briquette has too much cracks

Causes:

a. The Temperature is too high;

b. The screw is not well fixed;

c. The die is worn-out;

d. The lignin content in the sawdust is too low.

Solutions:

a. Reduce the temperature, but bear in mind that don’t reduce the temperature too quickly;

b. Lower the helix angle of the screw and increase the screw pressure;

c. Replace or fix the die;

d. Mix the sawdust with high proportion materials, or change the sawdust and reuse it after fermentation.

 

3. The density of the briquette is too low

Causes:

a. The temperature is too high;

b. The screw pressure is too low

Solutions:

a. Reduce the temperature;

b. Lower the helix angle of the screw and increase the screw pressure.

 

4. The extruder blew out

Causes:

a. The moisture in the sawdust is too high;

b. The hole in the center of the briquette is blocked.

Solutions:

a. Adjust the drying temperature to dry the sawdust;

b. See the solutions in the next point.

 

5.The hole in the center of the briquette is blocked

Causes:

a. The sharp end of the screw is deformed;

b. The sharp end of the screw is not smooth enough.

Solutions:

a. Adjust the coaxiality of the sharp end of the screw;

b. Polish the sharp end of the screw.

6. No briquette comes out and the sawdust returns

Causes:

a. The temperature is too low;

b. The screw pressure is too high.

Solutions:

a. Continues to increase the temperature;

b. Maximize the helix angle of the screw and lower the screw pressure
