First the feedstock is dried, and then it is charred. During the drying stage firewood is burned in the firebox to provide heat. Once combustible gases are released, they can burn in the inner container to maintain suitable charring temperatures. These gases contribute to making a high temperature and the feedstock is distilled into charcoal.
